FASTboard/386 (P/N 202323-001)

AST Premium FASTboard/386 high-performance accelerator board converts the 10
Mhz 80286-based AST Premium/286 to a faster, more powerful 16 Mhz, 80386-based
system. In its minimum configuration, it comes with 1024K of RAM made up of
100NS SIMM modules, and can be populated with a maximum of 8MBytes of memory.
The first Megabyte is split into 640K of conventional memory and 384K of
"Shadow Ram" reserved for system use. All subsequent memory would be
addressed as Linear Extended memory, and may be used as Expanded EMS by
utilizing the included ASTEMM.SYS memory manager. The FASTboard also comes
with 64K of high speed ram-cache memory. This board will support a 16MHz
80387 math co-processor.

INSTALLATION

The FASTboard/386 utilizes the AST FASTslot architecture, and must be
installed in one of the two AST Premium/286 FASTslots. One of these slots
is probably being used by the existing FASTram memory adapter. It does
not matter which FASTslot you use. It is not required that the FASTram
board remains in the system. If the FASTram remains in the system, it's
memory can only be accessed as 80286 EMS with the REMM.SYS driver. If you
wish to use ASTEMM.SYS to access 80386 EMS, it is recommended that the
FASTram board is removed from the system.

If the FASTram is in the system, turn SW5 to the off position, disabling
its linear memory and setting it up as all EMS. For more details on the
FASTram switch settings, see the FASTram documentation on this BBS.

Before installing the FASTboard/386, check the revision level of the PAL
chip at location U20 on the Premium/286 Motherboard. It must be rev. D or
    higher. (AST P/N 107101-159D)
