AST-3780

Complete Hardware/Software Package Allowing AST Premium(R) Computers, IBM(R)
PC/XT/AT(R) and PS/2(R) Model 25, 30, 50, 50Z, 60, 70 and 80 to Communicate as
an IBM 3780 RJE Terminal in a Binary Synchronous Communications Environment.

Expands Your Remote Computing Environment to the IBM Mainframe Environment

o BSC Remote Job Entry Terminal Compatibility

o Printer or Diskette Hard Copy Output

o Host Communication or Peer-to-Peer Operation

     o 3780, 2780, 2770, 3741 Emulation

o Automatic ASCII to EBCDIC Translation

o Interactive or Batch Mode Operation

AST-3780 is a total solution enabling your AST Premium/286, IBM PC or PS/2
Model 25, 30, 50, 50Z, 60, 70 and 80 to emulate IBM's 2770, 2780, 3741 and
3780 terminals for cost-effective communications line sharing and files
transfer capabilities in a BSC environment.

Giving you all the functionality of a PC and a Remote Job Entry (RJE) station,
AST-3780 allows your PC or PS/2 to co-exist with other communications devices
on the same remote communications line. It provides BSC batch communications
with host computers and allows users to share data, text, or program files.

To the mainframe host or peer device, the PC or PS/2 appears exactly like the
emulated terminal with a card reader, card punch and attached printer. The
parallel or serial printer emulates an RJE printer, and the hard disk emulates
the printer or card punch device. The keyboard and display can be used to send
single line messages to another peer or to the host application.

Adaptable to a variety of environments, AST-3780 uses IBM's BSC RJE protocol
and operates on switched, leased, lines at speeds from 1200 to 9600 bps using
synchronous modems. Besides IBM mainframe hosts, a number of other systems
support AST-3780, including IBM System34/36/38 and Series/1, DEC PDP and VAX
systems, and others.

An integrated, onboard modem eliminator supports local 3780 attachment to the
mainframe or front-end controller with communication speeds of up to 19.2K bps
at distances of 50 feet or less.

The AST-3780 package provides communications status indications, both
transparent and non-transparent file transmission, an automatic method for
transmitting files that exceed one diskette or disk volume, and automatic file
receiving.

In addition, it allows you to create a batch command file that provides
automatic, unattended 3780 emulations. This is especially useful for nighttime
transmissions that take advantage of lower charges for dial-up communications.
Other features include an accessible printer translation table and hot key
support.

Besides all the hardware and software you need, AST-3780 includes
comprehensive, easy-to-understand user documentation so you can become
productive in a minimal amount of time.

AST offers a full line of personal computing systems and enhancement products,
including multifunction boards, micro-to-mainframe and micro-to-mini
communications, local area networks, and graphics products.
